Klamath River - August 29th, 2010
RECORDED:
75 °
FISHING: Great
Conner, Grandpa and I did a little R & D on the Klamath River and found the Steely Trout fishing to be excellent. Conner turned the screws pretty hard on Grandpa today landing 12 fish to Grandpa's 7. Conner also landed 4 nice adults in the 16 to 20 inch class to Grandpa's 1. They landed all the fish while backtrolling a rebel crawdad plug or a whole treaded nightcrawler behind a luhr jensen jet diver. We dropped the boat on river about noon and fished till 4, it was nice being the only boat on the water. The Klamath is in excellent shape, the flow is now at 1400cfs, we should be seeing some Salmon up near the hatchery in the next two weeks.
****Now is good time to book that Salmon or Steelhead Trip -- September October and November dates fill up fast ****

McCloud Reservoir - August 19th, 2010
RECORDED:
90 °
FISHING: Excellent
The fishing at McCloud Reservoir for the past 6 weeks has been outstanding. I have been fishing clients, family, friends and we all have been amazed at the abundance of Trout and beautiful scenery. All methods of fishing have produced nice Brown and Rainbow Trout from 6-inches to 25-inches, most being in the 12 to 18-inch range. Today was no exception, my Dad (who has been feeling pretty good lately) and I fished all through the afternoon and into the evening and we landed 5 nice Brown Trout the biggest being over 20-inches and 4 pounds. We also landed many smaller Rainbow Trout while trolling Seps dodgers with a woolly bugger. Jigging a Buzzbomb over suspended Trout enticed two of the Browns to bite. The other 3 Browns were caught while trolling slow and deep with flies and the Seps dodgers. Now that school is back in the Reservoir will being seeing much less traffic making the fishing even better. McCloud will fish well into winter as long as the snow allows access.
***Salmon Season on the upper Klamath River is just around corner we should start seeing Salmon sometime around mid September, last season we landed a fish on September 11 and by the 15th the river was fishing steady for Salmon all thru October***

FISHING: Great
Despite the lower flows and hot temperatures the Klamath river is kicking out some nice Trout. The river is currently flowing at 825cfs the lowest its been in the last 5 years. Despite this low flow the Trout are hungry, as long as the sun is not up, and shining on the water. My client Jerry landed Trout in the in the 12 to 17-inch range and lost a couple of 20-inchers. The Hotshot worm combo produced the most fish, but panther martins and the rebel crawdad plug also produced some nice Trout. Fishing on the river right now will be best between the hours of 5am and 10am, so get that early start.

RECORDED:
90 °
FISHING: Great
The Reservoir and the River are in great shape and kicking out some nice trout. Trolling Seps dodgers with either grubs or worms will nail you an easy limit. If you are in the river, back trolling small hotshots with worm trailors or bouncing bait as well as swinging flies will produce some nice wild rainbows. Getting any early start is best, when the sun hits the water the fish go deeper and the bite slows down.

RECORDED:

FISHING: Excellent
It has been a while since my last report partly due to weather and partly due to my Dads battle with cancer. So far after 13 weeks of chemotherapy we are on the winning side of the battle. I got my Dad out today and in 3 plus hours of fishing we caught and released 18 wild rainbow trout. Dad landed 12 of the 18, which was pretty great. The biggest Trout was close to 20 inches and 3 pounds. All the Trout were caught while back trolling a size 50 hotshot with a worm trailer, in the gin clear water of the McCloud River arm of the reservoir . The weather is on the warm side (90's), but you could not ask for any better fishing weather, a slight cool breeze, sunny and warm. The best part is all the hungry trout. If you have the time I highly recommend getting up here and experiencing McCloud you will not be disappointed.

FISHING: Good
Fishing has been slow on the Klamath river the last month but should pic as the weather warms up and the stoneflies start to move around. My last trip was last Sunday on Mccloud and my clients landed 20 trout while trolling seps dodgers and worms. I am in Denver at a family function and will be back Wednesday. I have also been dealing with some medical issues concerning my Dad so I am hoping we will see some progress there soon. Sending good thoughts my Dads way would be greatly appreciated!!

Lake Siskiyou - February 24th, 2010
RECORDED:
45 °
FISHING: Good
Monday my Dad and I fished Lake Siskiyou in Mt Shasta and found the Trout bite to be pretty good. I say the bite was pretty good, but only in one area of the Lake. The hotspot was in front of the boat ramp in 20 to 45 feet of water. Trout were biting really good rite there. We picked up a few random fish from other areas on the Lake but not a consistent bite. Trolling Seps dodgers with either a small piece of crawler, or a Seps trolling fly (olive green) worked well, we also used a system 1 kokanee dodger matched with a beaded spinner in sparkle green made by Fish with Gary Tackle company to land a few. Trolling slowly, 1 mph, in an S pattern was the key to getting bit.

Klamath River - February 21st, 2010
RECORDED:
55 °
FISHING: Good
All the elements for a great day on the river came together yesterday. The Sun was out all day reaching 55 degrees allowing us to fish until dusk. We were one 3 boats on the river, but we were able to fish in near isolation, from start to finish. The Steelhead finally woke up from their winter slumber, allowing us to land 7 nice fish, each one putting up a good battle, on our ultra light 6 pound gear. We got bit using a variety of methods throughout the day; flies under an indicator, back trolling the crawdad plug, and bouncing a threaded night crawler on the bottom. The key to getting bit was fishing each area slow and making multiple passes thru each hole or slot. The Steely Trout were much friskier when we made solid hook ups, we had 4 Steelhead that broke water shook their heads and spit our offerings back at us. At the end of the day that is what we all ask for when we go fishing; good weather, biting fish, and excellent company.

Klamath River - February 12th, 2010
RECORDED:
49 °
FISHING: Fair
Steelhead fishing on the Klamath River has been slow. The last few times out we have only put a couple of fish in the boat. I think the constantly changing weather has really put the Steelhead bite on hold. Our weather has gone from 55 and sunny one day to 28 and spitting snow the next. These weather fronts are causing the barometer to go up and down which in turn has made the Steelhead fishing hit and miss. The fish that have been biting have taken a very slowly backtrolled crawdad plug or flies under an indicator. The weather today is windy mixed with the occasional rain shower and the temperature is 49 with a low of 35 this morning. This windy wet sort of cold weather is suppose to be here until this Tuesday, then starting Wednesday, we are suppose to see some sun and temperatures near 60 for the rest of next week.

FISHING: Great
After two weeks of Sportmans Expos my Dad and I got a chance to fish the Klamath River. Yesterday, we fished for a couple of hours in the late afternoon and went for 4 for 6 on Steelhead/Trout. We backtrolled Rebel crawdads and (Shasta Tackle) Matrix Flee bitty plugs down to the Fishhook landing most of the fish just behind the restaurant. The water is very cold so backtrolling extra slow is the key to getting bit.
